Give families the full benefit of their tribute while boosting charitable giving
6 March 2025
In the UK, there is growing awareness of online memorial pages. People are increasingly willing to engage with them, by making a donation or adding content. Many bereaved families will expect their funeral arranger to offer them an online tribute.
New MuchLoved data shows why it is so important to give the tribute page to the family for them to keep. When you give a family full access to their tribute page it is likely to attract more donations, as well as photos, thoughts, stories and candles which they will treasure forever.
The average number of pictures on a tribute increases from 3.2 to 10.5 when the family has access. After the funeral, and for years to come, these priceless photos will help them to remember their loved one
Tributes created by funeral directors raise 48% more in donations when the family is given access. Supporting a charity that’s close to their hearts can be great source of comfort to a bereaved family
When the family has access, 84% of fundraising tributes attract donations. For tributes without an owner, this figure is only 75%
These are just a few of the messages that we have received from families recently showing what their tributes mean to them:

How might the family benefit from sharing ownership of the tribute?
There are so many ways in which families can benefit:
They can easily personalise their tribute by adding photos or text. They can then share it with wider family and friends, inviting them to add their own precious memories
After the funeral, the tribute continues to be a place of comfort where they can add content like photos or lighting a candle on a birthday or anniversary. Families can keep their tribute page indefinitely, at no cost
Some families like to do more fundraising for their chosen charity. They take comfort in doing something meaningful, which also helps them feel connected to their loved one
If the family doesn’t already have a relationship with the charity, for instance when a hospice cared for their loved one, they may want to connect with the charity. The tribute can make that introduction in a way that is sensitive and relevant
Can charities contact families to thank them for donations?
Yes. Adding a tribute owner or donation contact is the only way the family can be properly thanked by the charity.
If you don't add their details, they can't receive a thank you - meaning there may be more questions for you to field.
Will the family be inundated with emails from MuchLoved and from the charity/ies?
No. The family will only receive four short emails from MuchLoved over a period of one month. The emails provide essential access to the tribute, and briefly explain what it is and how it can be used. As the tribute can display the funeral arrangements, tribute owners can simply forward one of the emails as a way to share details, something which they may find very helpful.
They can opt out at any time and will be asked to opt in should they wish to receive emails from the charity/charities.
How will it benefit our funeral business?
There are lots of ways you could benefit. For instance:
Funeral businesses are rightly proud of how much their tributes raise for charities, particularly local ones. Donation totals are proven to be higher if the family has access
Adding a tribute owner helps charities to connect with families and support them, as well as thank them for donations. This is also a great way for you to build relationships with charities in your community
Queries about donations can be dealt with by the charity or MuchLoved, rather than the family coming back to you
Families who have ownership of their tribute will be likely to share it with a wider group of people, not just funeral guests. This means that tributes carrying your brand will be seen by more people
